PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING (PFP) COURSES

PFP 4000 Personal Financial Planning (3.0)
Prerequisite: Fi 3300 or consent of instructor. CSP: 1, 2, 6, 7.
  This course covers the process of comprehensive personal financial planning and explores the integrative use of financial services and products to achieve personal and financial objectives. The changing nature of the financial services environment is explored. Students are required to develop a comprehensive, personal financial plan.
 
PFP 8389 Directed Readings in Personal Financial Planning (1.0 to 3.0)
Prerequisite: Consent of the instructor, good academic standing.
 
PFP 8400 Personal Financial Planning (3.0)
Prerequisite: Fi 3300 or consent of the instructor. CSP: 1, 2, 6, 7.
This course introduces the student to the concept of total personal financial planning. The focus is on asset and income protection, capital accumulation, retirement planning, and estate planning. The integration of the various elements into a comprehensive plan is emphasized.
 
PFP 8420 Individual Retirement Planning (3.0)
Prerequisite: MBA 7010 or Fi 3300. CSP: 1, 2, 6, 7.
  This course examines financial planning for retirement and presents a comprehensive process for doing such planning. Among the main topics covered are setting financial objectives for retirement, planning for adequate retirement income, social security and other governmental benefits, income tax planning, qualified plans, pre- and post-retirement investment planning, planning for longterm care, and planning for incapacity.
 
PFP 8460 Estate Planning (3.0)
Prerequisite: Acct 4510 or consent of the instructor. CSP: 1, 2, 6, 7.
  Estate planning is the arrangement of future wealth transfers to maximize the personal and financial well-being for an individual and the individual's survivors. This course is a study of legal, tax, and human factors surrounding the efficient transfer of property. Main topics include a study of wills, types of trusts, probate, and federal transfer taxation.
 
PFP 8520 Advanced Studies in Personal Financial Planning (3.0)
Prerequisite: PFP 8400, PFP 8420 and PFP 8460; or consent of the instructor. CSP: 1, 2, 6, 7.
  This course is designed as a capstone for students in the graduate degree programs in personal financial planning. The emphasis is on the formulation and implementation of the comprehensive financial plan. Previously acquired skills in the areas of insurance, investments, retirement planning, estate planning, and taxation are used in assigned projects and cases. Written and oral presentations are required.
